Health & Fitness Testing
Achieve your fitness goals by measuring key health and fitness metrics. Our professional testing services are available to anyone. We can test several aspects of your health:
- - Body Composition (% Body Fat)
- (resting metabolic rate)
- (VO2max, Submaximal, Lactate Threshold)
- Lipids, Cholesterol & Triglycerides (A1C and cholesterol testing)
We also offer tests for strength, flexibility, blood pressure, and glucose.

Personal Training
Take your fitness to the next level with personal training. Workout one-on-one with one of our exercise specialists. Start with four initial sessions, and then schedule follow-ups with your trainer as needed to check progress and foster improvement.
Your personal training program will begin with a fitness assessment. Your assessment will give you and your trainer an accurate measure of your fitness level.
A fitness assessment measures severals aspects of your health:
- Resting heart rate
- Resting blood pressure
- Cardiovascular fitness
- Muscular fitness
- Flexibility
- Body composition
During your next three sessions, your trainer will work with you to teach you how to complete your exercise program safely and effectively. These sessions will be spent working out with your trainer. By the last session, you will understand how to correctly conduct each exercise. At the last session, you will be given a program to take with you to continue on your own.

Our programs are designed for all fitness levels. Classes and personal training services are available to University of Utah employees, their partners, and alumni.
Exercise Prescription
Exercise prescription is a personalized plan designed to enhance your health and fitness. Your prescription is based on your goals, current fitness level, limitations, and preferences. Our knowledgeable exercise specialists can provide guidance to help you reach your goals. An exercise prescription plan includes:
- Type of Exercise: Aerobic (e.g., walking, cycling), strength training, flexibility (e.g., stretching, yoga), and balance exercises.
- Frequency: How often exercises are performed (days per week).
- Intensity: Effort level, measured by heart rate, perceived exertion, or weight lifted.
- Duration: Length of each exercise session.
- Progression: Gradual adjustments to ensure continued improvement.
Additionally, our recommendations will consider available facilities and equipment. We will demonstrate exercises to make sure you can do it comfortably and correctly. We offer follow-up appointments to help you track your progress and update your plan as needed.
Supervised Medical Gym
We offer a safe, supervised gym for individuals managing conditions like MS, Parkinson’s, or post-bariatric surgery. The gym offers fitness assessments, group classes, and wellness education. A physician referral is required.
