Common Questions About Microneedling

Microneedling has been around since the mid 1990s, but it’s recently become more popular. If you haven’t heard of it, an aesthetician uses a SkinPen® with small needles to puncture the first layer of skin.

The treatment is known for generating new collagen and elastin, which reduces fine lines, wrinkles, large pores, and some scarring.

“We love this treatment series for clients who want to rejuvenate their skin but aren’t ready for Botox, dermal fillers, or surgery,” says Hailey Richards, a master aesthetician at СAPP. “It’s minimally invasive and it will give your skin a boost.”

Here are some common questions and answers about microneedling:

Does Microneedling Hurt?

Multiple, tiny needles on your face doesn’t sound relaxing, but an aesthetician uses a topical numbing cream before starting the procedure.

“We get this question a lot—and we get it,” Richards says. “Needles on your face sounds a little bit scary. Keep in mind that the needles are incredibly small. We keep our clients’ comfort in mind, and if you decide that the treatment is too intense, we’ll stop and discuss other options to help you reach your ideal look.”

A soothing serum is applied afterward to calm the skin as the numbing agent wears off.

How Many Sessions Are Needed?

An aesthetician will make their ultimate recommendation, but people typically get three to six sessions with a four- to six-week break in between each session. Sessions usually take about an hour from start to finish. The schedule and plan an aesthetician puts together is based off skin type and the results the patient is hoping to achieve.

“We encourage our clients to come in ready to talk about how many or how few sessions they’ll need,” Richards explains. “Everyone’s skin is unique, and so are treatment plans."

This is why it’s important to  you can trust to give you the best results possible.

What Does Aftercare Look Like?

Healing takes five to seven days. Follow these steps for a successful recovery:

  • ٴDz’t wash your face or put product on your face until the following morning
  • ٴDz’t be in the direct sun for five to seven days
  • ٴDz’t apply make up to two days
  • ٴDz’t exercise vigorously for seven days

Richards advises to treat your skin as if you have a mild sunburn. Clean your skin gently with a mild cleanser. Use a moisturizer two to three times a day.

Should You Take Time Off Work?

According to Richards, some patients take time off work, while others schedule sessions for the end of the week so they have the weekend to recover. Side effects are minimal and can include mild redness, swelling, dryness, and itchy skin for about three days following your treatment.

It’s important to follow aftercare instructions to reduce the risk of infection, which can lengthen the healing process.

Is Microneedling for Everyone?

While most people can receive the procedure, Richards wouldn’t recommend it for someone with deep wrinkles and folds. If you are interested in microneedling, schedule a free consultation with a licensed aestheticians at a trustworthy location.
